Direction to our church:
Listening to the call of the Lord Jesus Christ, His Grace Bishop Youssef entered the monastic life in 1986 at the El-Souryan Monastery. He was ordained into the priesthood in 1988. Then in 1989, he came to the United States under the auspices of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, the 117th Pope of the Holy See of St. Mark. He was appointed resident priest to serve the Coptic congregation of St. Mary Church in Dallas/Fort Worth.
In 1992, His Grace was ordained as General Bishop and in 1993, His Grace was appointed to oversee the Southern Coptic Diocese. In 1995, His Grace was enthroned as the first Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States.
And Welcome to Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church.
Although we are a comparatively smaller congregation, we are an active community of believers. Accordingly, this website aims to promote the Orthodox faith and increase awareness of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria among both its members and a larger global audience.
On Sunday, November 21, 2010, the Nashville community was blessed with an ordination of a new priest, Fr. Cherubim Khalil, as H.G. Bishop Youssef performed the “laying of hands”. This blessed event was attended by H.G. Bishop Serapion of Los Angeles, some of the Diocese priests and the Nashville community. Fr. Cherubim will be serving the congregation of St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church. We pray that the Lord will grant Fr. Cherubim wisdom, love, and peace as he begins his new service.
"The work of the priesthood is done on earth, but it is ranked among heavenly ordinances. And this is only right, for no man, no angel, no archangel, no other created power, but the Paraclete Himself ordained this succession, and persuaded men, while still remaining in the flesh to represent the ministry of angels."
- St. John Chrysostom, On the Priesthood
